2.       Security and safety do play a role in maintaining one’s happiness. If someone doesn’t feel stable, I don’t believe they can maintain happiness for long because there will always be that lingering anxiety that things will change. Temporary happiness of the moment can definitely be achieved through any means, but for it to be lasting there needs to be hope that things will continue going how they are. Chris Gardner does see the safety and security of having a home and being able to support himself and his son as happiness because as soon as he found out he won the internship he realized they would no longer be homeless and deemed that part of his life “happiness”.
