12.       Willy is so proud of making things and working with his hands. He boasts on how good a job he did in remodeling their porch and ceiling and likes showing it off. Throughout the play he even mentions staring a garden and planting seeds, doing manual labor is what seems to make him most content. He, however, looks down upon being a carpenter because that is not an admirable job; there is no prestige in it. He even mentions that the boys’ grandfather had a better job than being a carpenter. Because carpenters don’t make much he views that as a petty job and would never allow himself to stoop to that level because he believes wealth is the true path to a good life.
